Four teenagers living with autoimmune type 1 diabetes (aT1D) have released a single aimed at raising awareness of the condition and challenging public misconceptions. The song, Rise Up, was written and performed by Ella, Lola-Belle, Olivia and Finley under the band name 1Type. It is now available on Spotify and accompanied by a music video.
The project, supported by Sanofi (a global healthcare company that develops medicines and vaccines) and Stagecoach Performing Arts, brings together music and lived experience to highlight the daily challenges faced by young people managing aT1D. The track also features spoken-word artist Duke Al Durham, who lives with the condition. Sanofi has committed to matching profits from the single with a donation to charities supporting those living with aT1D.
This initiative follows a recent survey commissioned by Sanofi of 200 UK adults with T1D, which found that 91% reported an impact on mental health and 98% said the condition affects their physical health.
“Creating this song was a powerful experience,” the band said. “We hope it starts a conversation and helps others feel less alone.”
