12 Relatable Little Wins for People With Type 1 Diabetes

Happiness sometimes arrives in very small packages.
For someone living with type 1 diabetes, it might be a perfectly timed snack, a quiet glucose monitor or the discovery of an emergency supply that was placed exactly where it was supposed to be.
The Children’s Diabetes Foundation recently highlighted some of the everyday moments that bring joy to people with type 1 diabetes.
Inspired by that idea, here are a few small but meaningful diabetes victories worth celebrating:
Waking up and discovering that glucose levels stayed in range overnight.
Inserting a new sensor or infusion set successfully on the first try.
Estimating the carbohydrates in a favorite meal surprisingly well.
Realizing the glucose alarm belongs to someone else for once.
Finding an extra snack at the bottom of a purse, backpack or glove compartment.
Remembering every necessary supply before leaving the house.
Wearing clothing with pockets large enough for diabetes devices.
Meeting another person with diabetes who immediately understands the inside jokes.
Having a friend remember which snack is helpful when glucose levels drop.
Enjoying a full night of uninterrupted sleep.
Seeing a device remain securely attached after swimming, exercising or spending a hot day outside.
Going through an ordinary day without diabetes demanding the starring role.
Living with diabetes involves plenty of numbers, planning and responsibilities. That makes it especially important to notice the moments when something goes right.
Not every win needs to be dramatic. Sometimes a cooperative sensor and a conveniently located snack are more than enough reason to celebrate.
