Big News for Diabetes Care: MiniMed 780G Cleared for Instinct Sensor and Type 2 Diabetes

ree

Living with diabetes is challenging, but new technology keeps making it easier. Medtronic just announced some exciting updates about its MiniMed 780G system that could change the way people manage their blood sugar.

The FDA has cleared the MiniMed 780G to work with Abbott’s brand-new Instinct sensor, a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) designed to be one of the smallest and most comfortable on the market. The Instinct sensor lasts up to 15 days, is very discreet, and gives you real-time glucose readings. By combining this new sensor with the 780G, people will now have more flexibility and choice when it comes to managing diabetes.

But that’s not all. The FDA also approved the MiniMed 780G system for adults with Type 2 diabetes who require insulin. Until now, advanced automated insulin delivery (AID) systems like this one were mostly available to people with Type 1 diabetes. This approval is a big step forward because it means millions of people living with Type 2 diabetes can now benefit from the same technology.

The 780G system uses something called Meal Detection™ technology, which automatically adjusts insulin delivery around mealtimes. That means less stress about remembering doses or worrying if your blood sugar will go too high after eating. In clinical studies, people using the MiniMed 780G saw their average A1C levels drop and spent more time in their target glucose range. Many also said they felt a big improvement in their day-to-day quality of life.

Experts say these updates are about more than just technology — they’re about giving people with diabetes freedom and peace of mind. With the combination of the MiniMed 780G and Abbott’s Instinct sensor, diabetes management can become simpler, smarter, and more reliable.

For people with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, this is an exciting time. With FDA approval for the Instinct sensor and expanded use in Type 2 diabetes, the MiniMed 780G is helping pave the way toward better, easier diabetes care.
